Garden Furniture, Bikes, Summer Tyres: Where to Put Your Things During a Hamburg Winter

All summer you couldn't do without them. Now they're just in the way: balcony furniture, the parasol, a bike trailer, summer tyres, or the camping gear from your last trip. If you live in a Hamburg flat with no basement of your own, or just a tiny storage cupboard, you know the problem. You won't need any of it until spring, but it has to go somewhere.

The problem: seasonal gear needs space, but only for a few months

Renting a large storage unit for a few boxes and some furniture often isn't worth it. And left on the balcony, cushions, wood and metal suffer from rain and frost. Usually a dry spot in the neighbourhood is all you need: move in during autumn, clear out in spring.

How private storage helps

On Stororama, private people offer space they don't currently need: a basement room, a garage, a parking space or a storage room. For you, that means:

  • The location you want: Search by place, district or postcode, for example your own neighbourhood, so the trip in spring stays short.
  • The right duration: Rentals run monthly, so you pay for exactly as long as your things are stored. There's also a daily option for short periods.
  • Easy payment: Payment runs automatically via PayPal subscription for as long as the rental lasts.
  • Privacy: The host's name and full address only become visible once a booking is confirmed.

How it works in three steps

  1. Search: Enter "Hamburg", your district or your postcode on Stororama and browse the spaces near you.
  2. Request: Send the host a booking request. Once they accept, the booking stands. Up to one day before the rental starts, either side can still withdraw free of charge.
  3. Store: On the first day of the rental, you drop off your things. The rental runs until you pick them up again.

Tips for storing things over winter

  • Agree on access up front: Ask the host when and how often you can get to your things, for example if you want to swap tyres in spring.
  • Store clean and dry: Pack cushions and fabrics dry, clean metal parts, and store tyres lying flat or on a tyre rack.
  • Nothing highly flammable: Under our terms, food, chemicals and highly flammable items, among others, may not be stored. So empty the lawnmower's tank, for example, and leave fuel cans at home.
  • Check your insurance: Stororama doesn't currently offer its own insurance or deposit. Ask your home contents insurer whether items stored outside your home are covered.
  • Make a list: A few photos and a short list of what you've stored help you and the host keep track.

Got space to spare yourself?

Maybe it's the other way round for you, and your basement or garage is half empty. Then you can rent that space to someone from your neighbourhood over winter. Listing is free, and you decide who you rent to. List your space here.

Make room for summer again in spring, and keep your flat clear until then. Search for a storage space near you in Hamburg now.
